Welcome to PORT Counseling & Consultation

The meaning behind PORT Counseling comes from it’s dictionary definition:

port/pȯrt (noun) city, town, or other place where ships load or unload. place along a coast in which ships may take refuge from storms; harbor.

Within the context of the therapeutic process, PORT Counseling is a place where you can take refuge from your stressors. It’s the space for you to unload the unhelpful thoughts and ways of relating with the world around you. It is the setting where you will get to load up on skills and strategies to help you through.

Healing Relationships, Starting with You

We’re confident that together we can work to help equip you with the necessary tools to help you face and overcome your identified challenges. Whether you’re struggling with the relationship you have with your intimate partner, family, friends, colleagues, your body image, or food, it is important that you know you don’t have to be alone in this journey. We have the experience to help you achieve your goals, overcome these struggles, and live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

We understand no two individuals are the same, and we tailor our sessions together to address challenges unique to you. We will work together to understand the root cause of your struggles and address those issues with long-lasting strategies, helping you get closer to the life you’ve always wanted.

Meet Denetra Robinson, MSW, LCSW

My goal is to assist individuals in changing their thought processes and behaviors to become the best version of themselves. As a social worker, I understand that the road to personal growth is a journey of uncertain turns. I also understand that throughout this journey, different life circumstances could impact the way a person is able to function.

Therapy sessions with me will be person-centered to encourage self-determination, and encompass a strengths-based approach. I feel that it is important to build on a person’s strengths and assist them in identifying their resiliency in the face of adversity. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is used to assist individuals in identifying negative thoughts and behaviors, and developing effective coping skills to modify behaviors when experiencing distress.
