Welcome to PORT Counseling & Consultation

The meaning behind PORT Counseling comes from it's dictionary definition:                                                                                                               

port/pȯrt (noun)                                                                                                                                                                                                                 city, town, or other place where ships load or unload.                                                                                                                        place along a coast in which ships may take refuge from storms; harbor.

Within the context of the therapeutic process, PORT Counseling is a place where you can take refuge from your stressors.  It's the space for you to unload the unhelpful thoughts and ways of relating with the world around you.  It is the setting where you will get to load up on skills and strategies to help you through.  

My Core Beliefs:

There are two major concepts that shape the way I work with the individuals I serve.  The first is that there is nothing wrong with you.  While at the same time, you have the desire to continue growing.  As your therapist, I will guide you through accepting this contradictory truth as it is where the healing occurs.  The second concept is that we are whole beings.  While we may think that relationship and communication issues only exist in one part of our lives, it is safe to bet that it also exists in other parts.  Through the therapy process, I will help you recognize the themes and patterns in how you relate to others.  We then will work to shift the patterns so that you are your happiest, most successful self.

My goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth living. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
